North Myrtle Beach, the county’s fourth largest city with a nine-mile stretch of the Atlantic Ocean. The city includes four beach towns, Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, and Windy Hill, consolidated as one town in 1968.
It was at Ocean Drive in the 1930s that a dance, The Shag, was born. It thrives today throughout the country as well as in local dance clubs and at annual shag reunions.
