Ocean Isle Beach is a coastal barrier island at the southern coastline of Brunswick County. Located between the historic port town of Wilmington and hustling Myrtle Beach. It is an easy commute of 20-30 miles to ether city. Incorporated as the Town of Ocean Isle Beach in 1959, it has a current year-round population of 554 with a seasonal population of 25,000, many of whom have beach houses and second homes in the area. Set amidst a unique subtropical paradise, residents enjoy deep-sea fishing, parasailing, wineries, and many other activities.
Ocean Isle’s Museum of the Coastal Carolinas is a natural history museum that offers excellent, free children’s programs on the nature of the coastal environment. Programs include educational programs for school groups, an outstanding monthly lecture series and outdoor classroom activities on the island in Fall, Spring, and Summer. The museum is often the first stop for families on their summer vacations. Summer programs include afternoon children and family programs, live snake programs and Family Night at the Museum.
A few minutes drive, between Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach, is the Ingram Planetarium where visitors can explore the heavens. The 85-seat Sky Theater simulates a perfectly dark, starry night during its one-hour program.
